IMAGES

I took these photographs between 2004-2014, a decade during which I spent a considerable amount of time living and working in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia.  In my view, becoming a historian of this part of the world required attaining a sense of place—and perhaps even of “home”—on the city streets, town squares, and dusty village roads and pathways that I travelled along in pursuit of knowledge about the past.  Photography was a powerful means through which I taught myself to “see” and “feel” this world, whose history I try to tell.  These images offer a window into my discovering and internalizing of this world.
